In the end, the Ghost Island theme may be a little hokey, and it’s a tad annoying how they’re trying to say that somebody making a dumb Survivor move five years ago can somehow “curse” these current players. One huge positive is that they’ve said that this cast has more huge Survivor fans than ever before, which makes sense, because what’s the point of bringing back Jason’s effing stick if the person that finds it again won’t have a clue what it is? You need people that appreciate the history of the show for a season like this, and apparently they’ve found them. But I get wary of too many twists – it can make the game feel a little too arbitrary and luck-based. Which, that could make for exciting television. I think that in the end, “Ghost Island” is really just code for “tons and tons of twists.” They’ll hit them with curveball after curveball so that there are more opportunities for these decisions, and therefore more chances for mistakes. I’m not really sure where they’re going with this. Don’t give your immunity idol away to somebody you’ve never spoken to. If the main goal is to not repeat mistakes of the past, then like, just don’t give away the immunity necklace then. It’s not like you’re going to be transported back into time to be put into the exact same scenario as JT to test whether you’d make the correct decision. Yeah, the idol you just found is cool and recognizable, but it’s still just an idol. Still, I don’t see how having these relics changes the game in any way. All of these “relics” are living at a place called Ghost Island, which from what I gather is supposed to be like Exile Island on steroids. There’s a list somewhere already published of all of the items they brought back for this season, but I didn’t read it because I’d rather be surprised. Any time a Survivor finds an idol or an advantage this season, it will be one of these. How exactly are these past mistakes going to be integrated into this season? Probst’s grand vision that he keeps talking about is that Survivor is all about decisions, and when faced with extreme pressure, will these Survivors make the correct one? Or will they repeat the mistakes of their predecessors? To keep all of these past mistakes front of mind, the Survivor team has actually collected several “relics” from seasons past – stuff like James’ two idols that he was blindsided with, or Erik’s necklace that he gave away. SORRY.Īnyways, people seem to be pretty excited about this theme, and I’m not saying I’m not excited, but I’m pretty confused. Honestly, I should probably put a disclaimer at the top: I AM NOT BEN FROM SURVIVOR. Speaking of these previews, I’m prepared for my view count on this blog to go back to the modest numbers it had before last season came along and tons of people googled “Survivor Ben” and clicked on my blog thinking (I’m assuming) it was actually written by the winner of Heroes Healers and Hustlers. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned the effing stick in like half of these previews. Horrors like Jason Siska believing the “effing stick” was a real immunity idol. Horrors like JT giving Russell Hantz (who he’d never met and was literally on another tribe) his immunity idol because he wanted to win his allegiance, only for Russell to quickly vote him out at the merge. Horrors like *shudders* Erik giving away his immunity necklace and promptly getting voted out. Who’s ready to “Reverse the Curse?” This season, we’re bringing back horrors from Survivor seasons past to deal with. We’ve arrived at Season 36: Ghost Island.
